Melinda Newman:
I'd like to begin by asking about how the song was put together.
Miranda Lambert:
The initial discussion was about whether we might compose a song for everyone to perform collectively, correct?
And you mentioned Brandy because she is beloved by us all.
Reba McEntire:
Love Brandy Clark.
Miranda Lambert:
Yes.
Reba McEntire:
Everything about her, from her writing to her singing.
Miranda Lambert:
Sure, so we headed to my back porch and-
Lainey Wilson:
Yeah, we thought, alright, we’re going to collaborate with Reba. So what type of song should we create, you know? What do we write?
Miranda Lambert:
She was at the location, so we kept contacting her and attempting to video call to determine the appropriate message for these three individuals. We wanted to know what exactly we should convey within a three-minute song because it seemed truly significant to everyone involved, I believe.
Reba McEntire:
I had messaged Brandy the previous day, sharing some concepts with her. When I eventually heard it, I was overjoyed—thrilled beyond measure. Brandy mentioned that this was the quickest she’s ever composed a song since we meshed so seamlessly.
Lainey Wilson:
We were discussing how both of you have impacted me, and it feels a bit like handing over a torch and forging paths together. So essentially, with one generation after another, this will carry on. We must ensure these pathways remain open for upcoming generations.
