Blake Lively Takes a Stand: Challenges Justin Baldoni in Legal Battle Post Taylor Swift Subpoena Rejection
Blake Lively Has put forth a new request during her lawsuit with her "It Ends With Us" costar, Justin Baldoni .
As per reports, the actress seeks access to Baldoni's financial records following his $400 million counterclaim against her sexual harassment lawsuit.
This occurred soon after Justin Baldoni's attorney requested legal documents from Blake Lively’s good friend through a subpoena. Taylor Swift as a witness in the current case.
Why Blake Lively WantsJustin Baldoni's Financial Records
According to TMZ Lively has sent out an assertive letter demanding access to Baldoni's financial documents.
The actress and her legal team have taken this action to confirm that the actor has actually suffered financial losses equivalent to his $400 million counterclaim because of Lively's accusations.
In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging that he created an abusive workplace and subjected her to sexual harassment.
In early January, Baldoni responded with a counterclaim seeking $400 million, targeting both Lively and her spouse, Ryan Reynolds. He alleged that they had defamed him and tried to take control of the film “It Ends With Us” away from him.
Now, Lively's legal team has said they already requested the financial documents from Baldoni, but they were turned down and only given "non-privileged documents concerning their damages."
Her representatives think that Baldoni and his legal advisors have an obligation to explain how they reached the $400 million figure they're aiming for. Additionally, her attorneys pointed out that although Baldoni asserts financial losses, the movie "It Ends With Us," where he both acted and directed, performed well at the box office.
Blake Lively Slammed Justin Baldoni For Subpoenaing Her Close Pal Taylor Swift
Lively's demand for Baldoni's financial records came shortly after her rep released a scathing statement, blasting the actor and his lawyers for subpoenaing singer Swift as a witness in their ongoing case.
The rep also criticized Baldoni's lawyer's suggestion to sell tickets to Lively's deposition and donate the proceeds to organizations supporting victims of domestic abuse.
"Mr. Baldoni, Mr. Sarowitz, and team continue to turn a case of sexual harassment and retaliation into entertainment for the tabloids, going as far as suggesting that they sell tickets to a concert venue - Madison Square Garden - to witness Ms. Lively's deposition, to subpoenaing Taylor Swift, a woman who has given a voice to millions all over the world," said the rep for Lively, per People Magazine .
The rep further stated that the ongoing case is a "very serious legal matter," not a "circus" that Baldoni's legal team seems to be trying to turn it into.
Blake Lively's representative asserts that the actor is attempting to 'intimidate' and 'humiliate' his ex-coworker.
In the statement, Lively’s representative criticized Baldoni and his fellow defendants in the sexual harassment case, who had earlier contested her attempt to dismissed Baldoni’s defamation counterclaim.
The representative commented, "The accused persist in their public intimidation, bullying, shaming, and assault on women's rights and reputations. Notably, within the last month, they have attempted to invalidate a crucial California victims' rights statute across the board, labeling it as 'unconstitutional.'"
"The unsettling acts by a wealthy individual, someone who built their career as a supporter of women, along with their team, keep revealing their real intentions," they added.
Justin Baldoni's attorneys criticized the actress's effort to have his lawsuit dismissed.
In their attempt to have Baldoni's defamation case dismissed, Lively’s lawyers referred to the Protecting Survivors from Weaponized Defamation Lawsuits Act.
The legislation introduced in 2023 aims to protect individuals who accuse others of harassment from facing counterclaims for defamation.
Nevertheless, Baldoni's lawyers countered, asserting that applying the statute would establish a "harmful precedent."
According to Variety They also mentioned that this situation infringes upon the film director's First Amendment rights, allowing them to contest what was characterized as Lively's "misleading and damaging" claims.
Why Justin Baldoni’s Attorney Talked About Selling Admission Tickets to Blake Lively’s Deposition
The remark regarding ticket sales, attributed to a representative of Lively, originated from Bryan Freedman, who proposed live-streaming and profiting from the deposition of the actress as per his suggestion.
Freedman told People Magazine He wants to sell tickets for her deposition, set to take place at Madison Square Garden, with all proceeds going towards helping domestic abuse survivors.
“Given that Ms. Lively is willing to testify, we should make it worthwhile,” Freedman stated. “Conduct the deposition at Madison Square Garden, either sell tickets or stream it online, and contribute all proceeds to groups aiding victims of domestic violence.”
Baldoni and Lively are set to provide testimony during the forthcoming trial, with proceedings due to start on March 9, 2026.
