2 Chainz missed out on an opportunity to meet Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri due to his inability to bring along a buddy at the time.
In an interview with Shannon Sharpe on a recent episode of Club Shay Shay In 2011, Chainz remembered when Dupri handed him a ring as an invitation for a meeting involving him and Jay.
Dupri shared an adaptation of this tale in 2023 He mentioned that he and Jay attempted to offer 2 Chainz a record deal, but the artist from Atlanta declined, stating that the music industry is geared towards "young men."
As per 2 Chainz, he did not really say the phrase "young man's game." According to him, the reason for the canceled meet-up was because he intended to bring along his close confidant and DJ, which wasn’t approved.

I received a call around perhaps 2011 from JD. I asked him, "Would it be okay if I brought along my partner?" He responded, "Nah, you don’t need anyone accompanying you." They offered to send me a private plane, but I declined since they wouldn't allow me to bring my dog.
The Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist also mentioned that he often reflects on what might have happened if he had attended that meeting.
Curiously, I often pondered about the outcome," stated 2 Chainz. "I certainly aimed to board the plane, yet remaining faithful was equally important to me.
Dupri discussed his recollection of the events during his appearance on the show. I Am Athlete podcast, where he recounted that what he recalled as 2 Chainz's reply genuinely surprised him.
“It’s wild because I was at Jay-Z’s place one day,” Dupri stated. “I called 2 Chainz and told him, ‘Hey, 2 Chainz, me and Hov want to bring you aboard.’ But he responded, ‘Respectfully, OG, this is a young guy’s world now.’ So I replied, ‘Just so we’re clear, do you realize whom you’re speaking with?’”
He remarked, "Therefore, whenever someone tells me this, I attempt to discover their source of information. Since the only two successful young Black males to emerge in hip-hop have both originated from my influence. Bow Wow appeared about a decade later than Kris Kross, but he too was 12 at his debut. When I launched them, they were just 11 and 12 years old."
